Mastic resident Jessie Graham has been sentenced to a term of 12 years to life in person for the sexual assault, which happened in broad daylight in May last year, Sini announced. Graham pleaded guilty on Wednesday, Sept. 4 to one count of first-degree sexual assault, a violent felony.

Sini noted that due to Graham’s criminal history, he was deemed a mandatory persistent violent felony offender by the Court and he was certified as a violent sexual offender.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on May 4 last year, Graham approached a woman as she was walking through the Swan River Preserve in Patchogue, asking for money and to borrow a cell phone.

When the woman refused, Graham forced her into the woods and sexually assaulted her. Graham then stole the victim’s cell phone, cash and fled from the area.

Sini said that Graham’s victim was able to go to a nearby business, contacted the police and provided a description of her assailant. Graham was arrested approximately 20 minutes later on Main Street in Patchogue while still in possession of the stolen phone and money.

“This is a dangerous, depraved individual who attacked and sexually assaulted a stranger in broad daylight,” Sini said. “This is a significant sentence that serves justice for the victim and holds the defendant accountable for his heinous actions.”
